Reading

In Room 5, one of our main aims is to ensure our Year 8's leave primary school, ready for the demands of college life.  Part of this preparation is to encourage and support the students to manage their own workload.  We have been practicing this over the last few weeks during our reading time.

Our new reading programme requires the students to complete a number of set tasks throughout the week.  These tasks include reading a novel of their own choosing, responding to a variety of texts in different ways, reading in a group with the teacher, and completing spelling tasks.  The order in which they complete these tasks is up to the individual student.

This new reading regime has been met with great enthusiasm.  As you can see from these photos, the students are really enjoying the opportunity to read their novels.
