Term 3, Week 1

The week that was...

In room 5, we have had an amazing start to term 3 - full of fun and learning!

We have stretched our minds in maths ...

... have worked cooperatively in writing ...

... and have been working on our soccer and hockey skills ...

This, coupled with our search for heroes and arts exploration, has been a very well rounded first week back!!

Creating with Clay

We were bringing our Arts Alive again with our sculpting successes!
Check out our sculpting pics.

Unfortunately some masterpieces didn't make it to the photo shoot...

Arts Alive!

We all enjoyed bringing the Arts Alive in room 5 with our first clay discovery.  We were learning about how clay can be molded, how designs can be created, and what happens when you throw the clay on the table!  Some of us also practiced how to make a pinch pot which will help us in our final design.

Enrichment Opportunities

An important part of our Year 7 and 8 programme are the enrichment opportunities that we are able to offer our students.  We are always looking out for external opportunities for students to develop a particular skill/talent.
Last term students were involved in the following:

Friendship with Words:  Writing Enrichment
Willie and Rosemary attended a writing workshop at Featherston School, organised through Wairarapa REAP.  The writing from the day was collated in the following ebook:

Kapa Haka Workshop:
Rosemary, Shoshanna and Breea attended a workshop at Lakeview School where they got to work with students from Te Aute College and Hukarere College.  The day finished with a concert at the Masterton Town Hall to share their learning.  The girls LOVED the day and are keen to help lead Kapa Haka next term.

Sewing Extension
From their work during Terms 1 and 2 in Technology, Hannah and Maaike were selected to participate in an extension sewing day at Featherston School.
The brief was to design a bag/wallet from the pockets of an old pair of jeans.
