Woodworking Extension

An important part of the Year 7 and 8 programme at St Teresa's School, is the enrichment opportunities we are able to offer the students.  We are always looking for external opportunities where students can further develop a particular skill/talent in their areas of interest.

Based on the work they have done during the term, Luke and Noah were selected by their technology teachers to take part in a woodworking extension programme earlier in the week.  The brief was to design and make something by upcycling a wooden pallet.

Both boys really enjoyed this opportunity, and were proud of what they made.

Leadership Opportunities

In room 5, we endeavour to offer many opportunities for the students to show their leadership skills in a variety of different ways throughout the year.  We work on developing every student's confidence, and encourage them to take the lead in areas where they have particular strengths.

This term, three girls in Room 5 have been showcasing their strengths and leadership in dance, as they  have been developing and teaching a performance dance to girls in Rooms 4 and 5.  This dance will be performed at the Dance Splash competition later in the term.

Well done Maaike, Hannah and Izzy!

The girls learning the dance have been showing a great commitment towards learning the steps, and also huge respect towards their peers who are teaching them.

Enrichment Opportunities

Friendship with Words:  Writing Enrichment
Willie and Rosemary attended a writing workshop at Featherston School, organised through Wairarapa REAP.  The writing from the day was collated in the following ebook:

Kapa Haka Workshop:
Rosemary, Shoshanna and Breea attended a workshop at Lakeview School where they got to work with students from Te Aute College and Hukarere College.  The day finished with a concert at the Masterton Town Hall to share their learning.  The girls LOVED the day and are keen to help lead Kapa Haka next term.

Sewing Extension
From their work during Terms 1 and 2 in Technology, Hannah and Maaike were selected to participate in an extension sewing day at Featherston School.
The brief was to design a bag/wallet from the pockets of an old pair of jeans.
